It's Modbus :-) though actually this is Pavel here. 15+ yrs. of experience, 8 of them in embedded/IoT/SmartMetering area. Which version of MQTT are you going to support (do you need MQTT 5 features)? Have you already decided on MQTT topics structure, should it be configurable/configurable on the fly? I see some words regarding MQTT configuration, but they may mean just brocker IP/port configuration. Do you need Modbus TCP support (you have Ethernet port, after all, why not? may be a good extra feature). There's a lot of other questions to ask/discuss, but the size of prposal is limited, so please drop me a line, and I'll ask these ones in PM. Thanks, WBW, Pavel.
