Sentence-level polish for a completed middle-school curriculum The Role BGU™ is a 12-pillar identity-development curriculum for middle school girls. Pillar 1 is fully written and structurally complete — story, activities, facilitator and parent materials, all locked. What it needs now is a line edit: a close, sentence-level pass to tighten the prose, smooth the voice, and catch anything that reads awkwardly out loud. This is NOT a developmental edit. The structure, content, and pedagogical approach are already decided and are not open for restructuring. We’re looking for someone to make good sentences better — not to rethink the book. What’s In Scope ● The Power Guide™ (Pillar 1) — particularly the narrative story and the activity/reflection copy girls read directly. ● The PrepPac — the orientation piece read before Pillar 1 begins, including several cinematic/narrative sections. ● Light copyediting as you go is welcome (typos, punctuation), but the focus is sentence flow and voice — not a full proofread pass. What a Good Fit Looks Like ● Comfortable editing for a middle-school reading level — warm, direct, second-person, sensory. Not academic, not corporate. ● Experience with educational or youth-facing content (workbooks, curriculum, chapter books, or similar) — someone who understands how voice needs to stay consistent for a 12-year-old reader across many pages. ● An eye for repeated words, clunky transitions, and places where a sentence is trying to do too much. ● Respect for an established voice — the goal is to sound more like the author at her best, not to impose a different style. Deliverable & Process Tracked changes (Word) with brief comments explaining any non-obvious edit. A short read-through pass first is welcome, but the deliverable is a marked-up manuscript, not a report. To Apply Send a short writing/editing sample — ideally something youth-facing or educational — along with your rate (per word, per page, or per project) and estimated turnaround for a single pillar (roughly 30 - 40 pages) plus a companion orientation document (roughly 20 pages). This is to edit one of 12 Pillars. If the work is successful, additional PIllars will follow. Experienced Line Editors only.

Line editing for middle-school curriculum requires navigating the tension between authorial voice and reading-level appropriateness—where a single misplaced word can either anchor understanding or derail a 12-year-old reader. Over 6 years and 540+ projects, the work has consistently involved educational and youth-facing content: curriculum frameworks, workbooks, chapter-level narratives, and instructional materials where voice consistency across extended passages determines engagement. This includes sentence-level refinement for developmental appropriateness, pattern recognition across repeated structures, and the discipline of enhancing prose without restructuring intent. For The Power Guide and PrepPac edit, the approach is direct: track every change in Word with precise comments, preserve the author's established voice at its best, and flag clunky transitions, word repetition, and sentences attempting multiple jobs simultaneously. A preliminary read-through will establish tonal baseline and mechanical patterns before the formal marked-up pass. Rate: $0.12–$0.15 per word (negotiable based on final manuscript scope). Turnaround: 8–10 business days for Pillar 1 plus PrepPac (approximately 50–60 pages combined).

Hi, I have experience editing and polishing educational content, youth-focused materials, workbooks, and long-form manuscripts, with a strong focus on sentence-level clarity, flow, tone, and reader engagement. I understand that this project requires a careful line edit rather than developmental changes. I will preserve the established structure, teaching approach, and author’s voice while improving sentence rhythm, transitions, readability, and emotional impact. I’ll pay close attention to the experience of a 12-year-old reader, ensuring the language remains warm, direct, relatable, and natural when read aloud. My editing process includes reviewing narrative sections, activity prompts, and reflection content to identify awkward phrasing, repetition, unclear sentences, and opportunities to make the writing more powerful without changing the intended meaning. I can provide tracked changes in Word with concise comments wherever an edit requires additional explanation. I also have extensive academic and professional writing experience, including research papers, theses, dissertations, and educational content, with strong attention to grammar, structure, and audience-appropriate communication. I’d be happy to review a sample section and provide a thoughtful line-editing approach for Pillar 1. I look forward to the possibility of supporting the remaining pillars as well. Regards, Moiz

Line editing middle-school curriculum requires balancing pedagogical clarity with age-appropriate voice—a tension most editors miss because they either over-polish into corporate sterility or under-edit into awkward informality. This project sits directly in my wheelhouse. Over 7 years I've edited educational content, youth-facing workbooks, and curriculum materials where voice consistency across 50+ pages matters as much as sentence flow. The constraint here is precise: respect the author's established voice while tightening prose at the sentence level. No restructuring. No developmental rethinking. Just making good sentences better. For a single pillar (30-40 pages) plus PrepPac (20 pages), turnaround is 7-10 business days. Rate: $0.12 per word or $75 per page—flexible depending on markup density. Deliverable is tracked changes with targeted comments explaining non-obvious edits, exactly as specified. Happy to share a recent educational editing sample and discuss voice preservation approach before we start.

Line editing middle-school curriculum requires a specific skill: maintaining voice consistency across instructional content while tightening sentences that serve pedagogical function, not just aesthetic ones. This distinction separates line editing from general prose polishing. Faisel Mahmuud has 15+ years handling educational content—workbooks, academic materials, and youth-facing copy where voice integrity across multiple pages directly impacts learning outcomes. The approach here matches your requirements: respecting the author's established voice while identifying sentence-level friction points, repeated word choices, and transitions that slow pacing for younger readers. Deliverables will be tracked changes in Word with concise comments. A preliminary read-through pass identifies voice patterns before the marked-up manuscript stage, ensuring consistency across the 50-60 page scope. Rate: $0.12 per word (industry standard for curriculum line editing). Turnaround: 10 business days for Pillar 1 plus PrepPac. Portfolio samples of youth-facing educational edits available upon acceptance. Ready to begin immediately and scale to remaining 11 pillars once this phase completes.

Hi — your distinction between line editing and developmental editing is exactly right. I’ll preserve the locked structure and author voice while tightening flow, repetition, transitions, and read-aloud rhythm for a warm middle-school reader. Quick self-authored editing sample: Before: “Sometimes it can feel like confidence disappears at the exact moment you need it most.” After: “Confidence can feel like it vanishes right when you need it most—but it’s still there, waiting for you to call it forward.” For Pillar 1 plus the PrepPac (roughly 50–60 pages), I propose $140 USD and 5 days. You’ll receive a Word file with tracked changes and brief comments only where an edit is not self-explanatory. I’ll first establish a voice sheet from the opening pages, then make a sentence-level pass and finish with a read-aloud rhythm check. I won’t restructure the material or flatten the author’s voice. If the first pillar lands well, I’d be glad to apply the same voice rules across the remaining eleven.

The first thing that stood out wasn't the work itself. But having a middle-school curriculum that flows well is essential for engaging young readers. It can be tough when sentences feel clunky or awkward. Have you considered how the voice might connect with your audience on a deeper level? From what I can see in the project description, you need someone to polish the narrative and activity materials, including: - A line edit of The Power Guide™ - A review of the PrepPac orientation piece - Light copyediting for typos and punctuation All of which I will be able to deliver. Message me right away as I believe I can bring something to the table others can't. Regards, Karike
