Keeping each handwritten page on its own PDF page is the part that quietly breaks these jobs, and it's why I'd build the document with a hard page break after every source page before typing a word, so page 14 of your notes is page 14 of the PDF even when the writing on it runs short and leaves half the page white. The non-obvious bit is OCR. Most people run the scans through an OCR tool and clean up after, and on real handwriting that takes longer than typing does and it silently invents plausible words that read fine and are wrong. I type them and then read each finished page back against the original image. Preserving original spelling means I keep your spellings and your oddities exactly and correct nothing silently, and where a word is genuinely unreadable I'd flag it in a way we agree on and give you a list of those spots, no guessing. Honest limit, if pages have marginal notes, arrows, crossed out lines or insert carets, plain prose formatting can't carry those and I'd need to know how you want them handled before I start.
