I have a unique project that has been on my plate for a while and I'd like some help finishing it. First of all - it's a little personal, so I hope to find someone who is interested in human stories rather than just a technical editor.
Here's a quick briefing.
3 or 4 years ago, I had my grandparents interviewed by some personal historians. I have about 60,000 words transcribed from these interviews. Based on these, I've always wanted to create a little internal book for the family that could be passed down to the generations. The problem, I'm not a natural writer, so every time I start, it stalls. I'd guess it'd only take about 10-15 hours of effort. But for me, I sit on it for a long, long time.
This project would be two fold.
First - Read the current text and make any obvious edits. My plan is to republish it as an interview and transcript. So it doesn't need much. Just clean up a few sentences where it became inaudible or fix any obvious errors. I've already cleaned up the names to make sure the names are correct. This is just a clean-up.
Second - Write 4 brief chapters (about 2500 words each) to highlight a story or two that point to lessons from the transcripts. I have prompts for this, so it's just a matter of finding a good story that fits in with the lessons. Basically, the lessons for health, wealth, social and faith. These summary chapters are just an opportunity to give it some character and fun (rather than a dry ol' interview).
All-in-all, it's a pretty easy project. All the text is in the transcripts, just needs some editing and a good summary chapter for each major category of life (which I already have the bullet points for).
If you have a day or two to devote to this, we can get a great finished product. If you have an interest in human stories, I promise my grandparents have a few interesting stories for you. They are great.
If you're interested in bidding on this project, please let me know what time frame you could expect to finish and provide experience you've had with biographical type writing. This is also a much needed specialization. I've had at least 5 other friends do the same with their family members once I told them there are personal historians out there.
Anyway - look forward to your bids and working with you.
