Computer Vision & 3D Generative AI Engineer – Automated Food-to-3D Model Pipeline, Project Overview We are building an automated pipeline that converts user-uploaded photos of food and restaurant dishes into clean, photorealistic 3D assets (.glb / .gltf). Currently, feeding raw user photos into 3D reconstruction APIs (Tripo3D ) causes high-frequency textures (like rice, grains, or sauces) to turn into distorted, lumpy geometric artifacts ("stones" / "slugs"), while moving cutlery and table backgrounds break multiview alignment. We are looking for an experienced developer with expertise in Computer Vision pre-processing and Generative 3D APIs to design, build, and optimize an automated end-to-end processing pipeline. Paid / Trial Milestone: Sample Verification Task Trial Task Requirement (Images Attached): Attached to this post are 4 photos of a bowl of fried rice taken from different angles. To be considered for this project, you must demonstrate how you solve the common reconstruction issues with this specific test case: Process the provided images to clean the background, isolate the bowl, and eliminate the shifting cutlery. Generate a preview 3D model (.glb or interactive web viewer link, or short screen recording of the wireframe and textured model). The Acceptance Criteria: The food inside the bowl must generate as a clean, smooth surface (not a chaotic cluster of bumpy "stones" or melted geometry), with the fried rice texture mapped realistically across it. The Project will be awarded once you have show me the model that you have generated

Are the four fried-rice photos the full test set for the trial, and should the final pipeline handle arbitrary restaurant dishes beyond fried rice? I have spent years working in computer vision, with open-source generative-AI and computer-vision repos totaling 2.1k+ GitHub stars. One discipline that carries across that work is directly relevant to your fried-rice case: output quality from a generative API is decided by preprocessing, not by the API itself — high-frequency textures like rice grains and sauces turn into lumpy "stones" and "slugs" when raw user photos hit Tripo3D. One thing your post does not spell out: before geometry even matters, moving cutlery and table backgrounds break multiview alignment. Masking those consistently across all four views — cleaning the background and isolating the bowl — is the step that decides whether the bowl's interior reconstructs as a clean, smooth surface with realistically mapped fried-rice texture rather than chaotic bumpy geometry. Milestone 1 (days 1–2): process your four photos — background cleaned, bowl isolated, shifting cutlery masked out — and deliver the preview .glb or wireframe recording for your acceptance check. Milestone 2 (days 3–7): the automated end-to-end pipeline, raw photo in, photorealistic .glb out. Can you share the four sample photos so I can start the trial task? Chang

I can help optimize the food-to-3D workflow by preprocessing the images to isolate the dish, remove distracting objects, and prepare cleaner inputs for Tripo3D reconstruction. I can also use Blender to inspect and refine the generated GLB, focusing on a smooth food surface and realistic texture projection rather than the distorted geometry caused by raw reconstruction. I’m happy to start with the fried-rice trial and provide a preview GLB or interactive result.

Hello, I can complete the fried rice test case and help optimize the full Food-to-3D pipeline. I can clean the four images, remove the background and shifting cutlery, isolate the bowl consistently, improve multiview alignment, generate the 3D model, and reduce noisy/bumpy geometry while preserving realistic food textures. I can provide the final result in GLB/GLTF format with a preview or short screen recording. Are you open to alternative 3D reconstruction APIs if they provide better results than Tripo3D for food models? Best regards, LapaModels

Hi, a pipeline that turns phone photos of a dish into a clean glb, with the rice reading as rice and not gravel. Those lumps are the reconstructor modelling texture that belongs in a map. How I'd build it: segment the bowl per frame, matte the background flat, score frames for pose consistency and drop ones where cutlery moved, then send only the clean masked views to Tripo3D. Then a mesh pass that smooths the food surface and bakes the grain into normal and albedo maps. Is Tripo3D fixed, or can I try another backend on the same inputs? Closest I've shipped is a vision pipeline where accuracy came from preprocessing, not the model. Happy to start on the fried rice set. Regards, Zohaib

Hi, I went through your requirements, and I can build an automated Computer Vision + Generative 3D pipeline that preprocesses food images and generates clean, photorealistic .glb/.gltf assets without the distorted geometry caused by high-frequency textures and inconsistent backgrounds. I will implement background removal, bowl/food segmentation, cutlery and unwanted-object masking, multi-view image alignment, and preprocessing optimized for 3D reconstruction APIs such as Tripo3D. I will also optimize the reconstruction and texture workflow so details like fried rice remain visually realistic while the food surface stays smooth and structurally clean. For the trial, I can process the provided 4 fried-rice images, generate the cleaned inputs, produce a 3D preview, and validate the result against your acceptance criteria. Q: Do you want the pipeline optimized specifically around Tripo3D initially, or should I also evaluate alternative reconstruction/3D generative APIs? I can start immediately once confirmed. Best regards, Akif K

I understand the core challenge: raw multi-view food photos are causing Tripo3D to reconstruct rice and sauces as chaotic “stones/slugs,” while shifting cutlery and backgrounds disrupt alignment. The key is strong CV preprocessing before 3D generation. I’ll build a pipeline using Python/OpenCV with segmentation/background removal to isolate the bowl, mask or eliminate cutlery and irrelevant regions, normalize/crop views, and prepare consistent multi-angle inputs. I’ll then integrate the processed images with Tripo3D (or the suitable Generative 3D API), tuning the workflow so the food surface remains smooth while realistic texture is preserved. For the 4-image fried-rice trial, I’ll process the views, generate the .glb and validate the geometry, texture mapping and multiview consistency. I can provide the requested GLB, interactive viewer or wireframe/textured preview for acceptance. Once the trial meets your criteria, I can turn the workflow into a repeatable automated pipeline with clear processing stages and documentation. I’m confident I can solve this reconstruction problem effectively.

hello, there? I understand you need a computer vision and generative 3D pipeline that can convert food photos into clean 3D assets while solving the common reconstruction problems caused by detailed textures, changing backgrounds, and unwanted objects like cutlery. The main challenge is not only generating a model but improving the input data so the 3D reconstruction system produces smooth food geometry with realistic texture mapping instead of distorted surfaces. I will design a preprocessing workflow that isolates the dish, removes background interference, improves multi-view consistency, and prepares optimized inputs for 3D generation APIs such as Tripo3D or similar solutions. I will then evaluate the generated GLB/GLTF output, refine the reconstruction process, and focus on producing clean surfaces suitable for restaurant and food applications. My approach is to test the provided fried rice images, compare preprocessing methods, generate the 3D result, verify geometry and texture quality, and deliver a pipeline that can be improved for future dishes. thanks.

Resolving geometric distortion from high-frequency textures like rice grains and removing background noise requires a dedicated computer vision pre-processing pipeline before any reconstruction API call. I will design an automated Python pipeline using Segment Anything and depth-aware masking to cleanly isolate the dish, eliminate distracting table elements, and filter out inconsistent cutlery across multiview frames. To prevent Tripo3D from turning grains and sauces into lumpy stone-like artifacts, the workflow applies curvature-preserving surface smoothing and normal map optimization so the food retains clean, continuous geometry while preserving photorealistic texture detail. For the initial phase, I will run your four fried rice sample images through this custom segmentation and surface-smoothing sequence, providing an initial verification preview that includes both an interactive .glb model and a wireframe screen recording for your review checkpoint. Once the surface quality and mesh topology meet your acceptance criteria, I will package the end-to-end automated scripts into a containerized, production-ready module that outputs production-ready .glb and .gltf assets. The complete pipeline integration and documentation will be fully delivered within your 7-day timeline. Ridwaan M.
