I’d first identify the exact point where the student’s understanding starts to break down, because a weak algebra/trig foundation can make a calculus problem look much harder than it actually is. My sessions would be practical: a short concept check, one worked example together, then I have the student solve similar problems while explaining their thinking so I can catch the misunderstanding in real time. We’d use their actual class material and homework first, then targeted practice where needed. After each session I can send a concise recap of what we covered, what still needs reinforcement, and a few practice questions.
