Hello,
What I essentially need is an automated image renamer/resizer/relocator.
- - - - - Step-By-Step Abstract - - - - -
- Reference folder of images (photos)
- Rename image files based on ‘date taken’ metadata
- Resize the file (via duplication, not affecting the original)
- Create additional thumbnail
- Move files to specific location in file structure
- - - - - Folder Structure - - - - -
So the file structure we start out with looks like this.
- Original Photos (A folder containing the original photos. This folder has subfolders)
- Dates (This contains a folder for each day of the year: “Jan 1, Jan 2, Jan 3, ect.)
- Date Folder (e.g. ‘Jan 1’. Where full size ver of the renamed photos go)
- thumb (Where thumbnail ver of the renamed photos go. Same filename as full ver)
Date Folder names
Jan 1 - Jan 31
Feb 1 - Feb 29
Mar 1 - Mar 31
Apr 1 - Apr 30
May 1 - May 31
Jun 1 - Jun 30
Jul 1 - Jul 31
Aug 1 - Aug 31
Sep 1 - Sep 30
Oct 1 - Oct 31
Nov 1 - Nov 30
Dec 1 - Dec 31
- - - File Naming Convention - - -
Using information from the picture, the file name would look like this:
What this pretty much says is
2012, #06, Tuesday, September, 13th, extension
To break it down.
2012: Year the photo was taken.
06: The serial number. So in this case, this photo is the 6th taken on this day in 2012 based on the "date taken" metadata in the photo.
Tue: First 3 letters of the day of the week
9: The month, in this example - September
13: The day, In this example - the 13th
- - - So with that said, here is what needs to happen. - - -
- The collected files in Original Photos are renamed based on their image data following the naming convention
- Files are copied to the Date Folder that corresponds to their "date taken" data and filename
- Files are copied to the thumb folder within this folder, these correspond with the files in the parent folder.
- Files inside the Date Folder are now resized to a max width of 800px* for horizontal images and a max height of 600px* for vertical images (maintaining aspect ratio)
- Files inside the thumb folder are resized to 150px width, then cropped down to 125px x 91px*
*It would be convenient to have an admin panel where I can adjust these values.
Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.
