We have DirectShow filter where class CXtalViDImpl is realised: class CXtalViDImpl : public CAsyncReader , public IFileSourceFilter , public IAMFilterMiscFlags , public IAMOpenProgress , public IAMMediaContent also we have CFileStream class: class CFileStream: public CAsyncStream, where Read method is redefined. So we read file asynchronously and render it as we need. If we register this filter for avi files via HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.avi as "Source Filter" it is applied in every player we tried. But if we register filter for wmv (or asf) files it is applied in all the players except standard Microsoft Windows Media one. Strange thing but if we change extension of WMV file from .wmv to .avi it is played successfully in WMP with our filter. Does it mean WMP applies filter on the assumption of file extension? As we understand WMP builds it's own graph with it's own source filter, and it doesn't need any other filter to play native wmv files. So we need a solution which will allow us to apply our filter to WMV files in the Windows Media Player.
