I need a library of routines (in ANSI C - compatible with FreeBSD, Linux, etc.) that will perform the following:
1. A function that will accept a string pointer and will compose a JPG/gif/png image with a graphic representation of the passed character string. The length of the string should be anywhere from 4-12 characters.
2. A function, given the graphic image created in #1, output the image to STDOUT with appropriate MIME headers so that a script using the routines can be embedded in an IMG tag and will be treated from the browser's perspective as an image.
#1 and #2 could be incorporated into a single routine.
This is a fairly simple procedure - I'm not looking to obfuscate the graphic version of the text string, but any extra options regarding sizing, color, spacing or character formatting would be most appreciated.
The library should be SMALL and TIGHT and have VERY LIMITED DEPENDENCIES. The use of a very common public domain graphics library such as GD would be appropriate but it would be ideal if the library was completely independent. I don't plan on selling the completed script using these routines but I don't want the submitted code to be encumbered by any copyright claims just in case. When you propose a solution, please provide details on what if any dependencies beyond standard C libraries you would require.
I also need a sample program to demo the routines along with compilation instructions.
If the routine is particularly efficient and well-designed, I may offer a bonus payment.
