We want to create a software/database system to move us away from paper filing.
We are a delivery company of beds and have 1 site with our warehouse/office in one area.
We want the database to be able to be accessed from all 10 PCs and be able to be updated on the fly. This also needs to have a user/password access system to make it secure.
We take orders from the internet which currently are sent to us from protx after processing via email. We want the new system to be able to pick up those orders automatically, assign them an invoice number and then hold them for a human to check the stock on that order. Once the stock has been checked the member of staff with click a button to either say its in stock, out of stock or needs to be refered cause it looks dodgy.
Staff will then be able to pick up those orders that are out of stock and call the customers to arrange alternatives.
If the item is in stock it needs to be printed out so that the correct courier label can be attached and then sent over to our warehouse for packing.
We also take sales over the phone so there needs to be a facility to do that as well. We also have to run reports that currently we hand type into sage in regards to sales and refunds. This needs to be added to the new system.
I have heard that a mysql database would be the best way to set this up for easy backup/migration etc but we are open to new ideas. What ever we get we want it to be ours outright with no license issues like having to buy 10 versions of Access etc. We would like our own created software.
We have a large budget for this project and would require about a 6 month warranty for bug fixing.
We currently run on a Windows Server 2000 system with the client PCs running XP Pro.
There is plenty of room for expansion of this project as we migrate it into other areas such as stock control so there needs to be the facility for that to be added on at a later date.
