Hello I will perform a comprehensive structural assessment of the barn to determine whether the existing framing system can safely support residential occupancy loads in accordance with current building codes. The foundation will be evaluated for bearing capacity, settlement, cracking, and moisture-related deterioration to confirm it can sustain increased live and dead loads associated with living quarters. The roof structure, including rafters or trusses and their connections, will be analyzed for span adequacy, deflection limits, and lateral stability under governing wind and snow loads. Existing structural beams will be reviewed for section capacity and connection performance, and where aesthetic upgrades are desired, I will specify appropriately sized engineered wood or steel replacements that preserve the structural load path. Upon completion, I will provide a technical report with calculations and recommendations outlining any required reinforcements or modifications to ensure code-compliant and safe conversion.
