I have a small (under 5 GB) Azure SQL Database that must be brought in-house and run on SQL Server Express 2022. Every object—tables with their data, stored procedures, functions, views and indexes—needs to make the trip intact so the system behaves exactly as it does today. Once the database is sitting in SQL Server Express, the legacy VB6 application that currently points to Azure has to reconnect seamlessly. That means updating the connection logic, testing all critical screens and reports, and confirming read/write operations work without timeout or syntax issues. Preferred workflow • Export or script out the Azure database, then restore or import into SQL Server Express 2022 using SSMS, Azure Data Studio, or the Data Migration Assistant—whatever gets the cleanest result. • Validate data counts, constraints and object dependencies. • Switch the VB6 connection string to the new local instance and run through a quick acceptance test with me watching over a screen-share. • Provide a short hand-over note (or batch file) so I can re-run the migration if needed in the future. The environment is already provisioned: SQL Server Express 2022 is installed on a Windows 11 workstation; the VB6 codebase compiles fine under the classic IDE. I will supply VPN access and the Azure connection string once we schedule the session. Success is the VB6 app working against the on-prem database with all objects present and consistent.
