Experienced Metalwork Detailer Needed in Canada

Job Title Architectural Metalwork Detailer Required for Handrail, Guardrail and Fence Shop Drawings Project Description We are seeking an experienced architectural metalwork or miscellaneous-steel detailer to prepare a complete shop-drawing package for handrails, guardrails, fences and related metal components for a landscape construction project in British Columbia, Canada. The successful freelancer will receive the project drawings, landscape plans, client notes and reference details. The work will involve reviewing the available information, identifying missing or conflicting requirements, preparing an RFI list where necessary, and producing clear fabrication and installation drawings. This is not a general architectural drafting assignment. We require someone with practical knowledge of metal fabrication, railing systems, mounting conditions, anchors, welds, base plates, gates and installation coordination. Required Scope The shop-drawing package is expected to include, as applicable: * Overall railing, guardrail and fence location plans * Enlarged plans and elevations * Individual railing and fence types * Post spacing and panel dimensions * Overall lengths and heights * Top-mounted and face-mounted conditions * Base plates, brackets, anchors and fasteners * Connections to concrete curbs, slabs, walls and landscape elements * Welded and mechanical connection details * Corners, transitions, ends and changes in elevation * Gate elevations, frames, hinges, latches and hardware * Material sizes, thicknesses and profiles * Finish and coating notes * Fabrication notes * Installation notes * Field-verification dimensions * Component or material schedules * Drawing index and revision tracking * RFIs identifying missing dimensions, unclear details or coordination issues The final package must be suitable for client, consultant and fabricator review. Deliverables The selected freelancer must provide: * Shop drawings in PDF format * Fully editable AutoCAD DWG files * Organized CAD layers * Linked or packaged reference files where applicable * One initial review submission * Revisions based on consolidated review comments * Final coordinated drawing set Required Experience Applicants should have proven experience in at least one of the following: * Architectural metalwork detailing * Miscellaneous-steel detailing * Handrail and guardrail shop drawings * Fence and gate fabrication drawings * Stair and railing detailing * Metal fabrication and installation drawings Experience with Canadian or North American construction drawing standards is preferred. Software AutoCAD is required. Experience with Advance Steel, Tekla Structures, Revit or SolidWorks is an advantage, but the final editable files must be compatible with AutoCAD. Confirmation that you can review architectural and landscape drawings and prepare RFIs. 7. Please do not submit only architectural floor-plan, rendering or general drafting examples. We need fabrication-level detailing experience. Proposed Milestones Milestone 1 — Document Review and RFI List Review all supplied drawings, notes and reference details. Prepare a list of missing information, dimensional conflicts and technical questions. Milestone 2 — Sample Shop Drawing Prepare one representative railing or fence elevation and one typical mounting detail for review. Milestone 3 — General Arrangement Drawings Complete location plans, elevations, dimensions, railing types, fence types and gate layouts. Milestone 4 — Fabrication and Installation Details Complete post, base-plate, anchor, bracket, weld, connection, gate and mounting details. Milestone 5 — Review Revisions and Final Issue Incorporate consolidated comments and issue the final coordinated PDF and DWG package. Project Type One-time project, with the possibility of additional railing, fence and miscellaneous-metal detailing work on future projects. Engagement Preference We prefer a fixed-price contract divided into milestones. Applicants may propose an hourly rate if they also provide an estimated total number of hours. Important Note The freelancer will be responsible for drafting and detailing based on the supplied project information. Any engineering, structural calculations or professional certification required for the final system will remain the responsibility of the appropriate qualified professional unless specifically added to the contract.
