We operate a water tours business in Sydney and require software which can run on MS Windows XP or similar.
We want to operate an automatically guided tour. The software must play specific MP3s as the boats pass by waypoints which are defined in a central playlist. The software will receive data from a GPS antenna and use that data to reference to the waypoints listed in the playlist.
There must be the provision of options for up to 5 different language variations which are chosen at the beginning of the tour. For example, when English speaking tourists board the tour boat, the English version is selected and then MP3s are played according to waypoints. Alternately, using the same waypoints, if the tour group is Chinese, we would want to be able to select the Chinese language pack.
Also, the option of specifying a particular direction of travel must be available on all Waypoints. Eg: If the boat passes a waypoint whilst traveling North, the software must play the MP3, however as it returns past the Waypoint later, while travelling south, it must not play the MP3 again.
There must also be an adjustable range between boat and waypoint. EG: Within 250 metres of the Waypoint. This means that if we travel past a landmark, we will still hear the MP3 without the need to actually pass directly over the specific Latitude Longitude. This range must be individually adjustable across all Waypoints, as the unique characteristics of each landmark require.
Waypoints/Playlists must be easily modifiable using a Windows GUI which is user friendly to novice users.
GPS information to be gathered by the software includes
Latitude/Longitude
Direction of Travel (Heading)

Let me know the GPS receiver you would be using. Normally you would find NMEA compatible gps receivers with RS232 (serial port link) outputs. The receiver protocols needs to be studies by its datasheet. If you need I may suggest one.
We have experience in embedded engineering too.

Hi. I would need a few details on the GPS; what unit would be used and how it communicates with the computer (USB, RS232? NMEA Protocol or other? Would I provide the GPS unit as well?). Also, would you provide the audio files or would I have to?
This looks like a nice project do-able under 30 days. If the GPS unit is sending data a way I am used to work with, I would be ready to work on the software. I can provide the software (compiled and sources), some support on setting it up and creating maps (documents and/or live support over internet), and bug fixes/updates for a given period after then.

The project is very clear. You need a program that will automatically play various MP3s depend on place/region with an optional options. All your parameters or options can be changed at anytime. I will make it flexible. I can do it very consider of user friendly, easy to use, skinable. Make the program communicate to GPS. I got advantage on electronic device communication. 1. In wich way waypoints will be added to central playlist?
2. What type of GPS you intend to use? (I am intresting communication port USB or RS-232, and GPS message format NMEA,Sirf binary or other )

3. I can test software in my town (using laptop and board on ET-332)
4. I can support some updates and fix bag over a period 1 month.
Our team have experience with GPS and Player even though runing on windows mobile phone, but it is no problem to transfer to windows. Also we should have more communication in detail. So about delivery for 40 days, I left about 10 days as buffer to optimize the application
I've already worked with GPS & Geofencing applications and have enough programming experience to play mp3 files. SO it'll not be hard for me to do it. Time for completion can be negotiated.
