Kids coloring book, story written by a 9yr old (11 years old now). The story is a part of an electronic kit where the child will assemble a simple blinking circuit. The story shows simple discrete electronic components with child like characteristics that save the town from evil electronic components.
The story is an 18 page black and white book with images that can be colored with crayons with a color cover. Out of the 18 pages, 10 pages are the actual story that needs illustrations. The remaining 8 pages are word searches, mazes, circuit diagram and definition of terms. The story is currently written in Microsoft Publisher 2003 but can be exported into any format. The book comes with parts to make a lighthouse with a paper cone, circuit board with blinking red LED light and 9v battery. This is an educational book so I’d like the characters to look as much like the actual electronic components as possible. There are several characters described below. The town can be left to the imagination but must include a lighthouse. Since the authors are from New England, I envisioned a quaint New England town.
Our target audience is kids age 6-15. The story is based on a bunch of friends who are kids, saving their town from capture.
More charater details provided in Deliverables description.

Robbie is the main character and is a resistor. Resistors come in many colors and sizes but I would like to use the cylinder shape with leads on both ends. The job of the resistor is to limit current so Robbie’s personality would be to slow things down, resistive (not dopey).
Sparky is Robbie’s pet dog. He protects his master and also gives Robbie the personality of being responsible. The dog can be any shape but we would like it to be cute. We thought it would look like a lightning bolt with a head and legs.
Cappy is a close friend of Robbie and is a Capacitor. Cappy is can shape with both leads extending from the bottom. Capacitors store electrons and discharge them when needed. This would give Cappy a volatile personality, calm one minute and discharging the next.
Transistors are newer components than Resistors and Capacitors therefore should be younger than Cappy and Robbie. Since the story needs two Transistors, I thought they should be twins. Transistors have three leads extending from a black round, flat faced silicon chip. Transistors are switches and used for complex circuits so even though they are young, they should be brainy.
Resistor army attacks the town (Bad guys). We could have used any component as an army but since resistors are tall, we thought of rows and rows of resistors marching towards the town. Also, since the resistors have strips, we can use different strips for different ranks in the army.
Battery army saves the town (good guys). Since this army sees the flashing light (beacon), they need to travel fast to save the town. We thought it would be flying batteries, round with wings. This army attacks from the sky by shooting sparks or lightning bolts at the resistor army.
Actual story and sample images will be provided.
WIndows would be perfered. Images that can be opened in Windows environment will work for me.
