Scientific articles are usually written for a particular audience (usually of other scientists).
However, a great deal of scientific writing is also of interest to the general public. These articles
are usually written in a very different format than a scientific article is. Usually, the format is
shorter, with less emphasis on describing methods or detailed information about how the
information is analyzed and rather covers only 1-2 main points of the article.
Remember that you are trying to clarify the results of the experiments performed and described in the paper. You should choose language/words that you would expect a high school student to be able to understand (even a high school student with no specific study in science).
News and Views articles (and most other media coverage) usually do not contain inline citations
for referencing (do not put). However, they do often depend on more sources than the paper that you are covering so you may want to find a recent review or internet sources covering background material related to the topic.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: explain the main result(s) of the paper, to put it into language that is understandable to a lay audience and, most importantly, to explain why the information may be relevant or interesting to a particular audience. The length should be no more than 500-600 words.
