Failure modes to avoid: wrong base currency (ECB uses EUR), mismatched business-day vs calendar-day conventions, and missing per-row audit links or inconsistent rounding that will fail your spot-checks. Sharp point: ECB publishes EUR-based reference rates only — producing non-EUR pairs by cross-calculation will introduce tiny rounding and provenance issues for an audit. If you need original-published pair rates, choose a provider that issues them directly (OANDA/Bloomberg). Proof: will pull from ECB eurofxref / SDW (or OANDA on request) so each row is verifiable against the primary source.
