I’m building a small utility that automatically picks up any call from an unknown number, speaks a short greeting, and asks the caller to say their name. If the caller responds, the app must immediately pass the call through so my phone rings normally and I can answer. If the caller stays silent or refuses to state a name, the app should divert the call straight to voicemail without ever disturbing me. No call-logging is required at all. The core job is the call-screening flow itself: detecting an incoming unknown number, playing a configurable audio prompt, capturing the caller’s spoken reply, judging whether speech was detected, and then routing the call according to the rules above. You are free to choose Java or Kotlin, but please rely on official Android Telephony/CallScreeningService APIs so the APK works on current stock Android builds (Pixel and Samsung devices in particular). I don’t need an elaborate UI—just a minimal settings page where I can enable/disable the service and replace the recorded greeting. Deliver the complete, cleanly-commented Android Studio project plus an installable APK.

⭕⭕ ANDROID CALL SCREENING APP EXPERT ⭕ Hi there, ✔️ Based on your requirements, I can build a lightweight Android application that automatically screens unknown callers using Android's official CallScreeningService APIs and routes calls based on whether the caller provides their name. ✍️ Should the app treat any detected speech as valid, or should it specifically attempt to extract a caller name? ✍️ Do you want unknown callers screened only, or should private/hidden numbers follow the same process? ➰ I would recommend implementing this with Kotlin and the official Android call-screening framework to ensure maximum compatibility and long-term stability across supported Android devices. Looking forward to discussing the exact call flow and delivering a clean, production-ready solution. Thank you.

Hi. As an Android Expert, I can build the call-screening utility in Kotlin using the official Android telecom APIs and keep the UI minimal. One important point: CallScreeningService can allow, silence, or reject an incoming call, but Android requires a screening decision within about 5 seconds and does not by itself provide a full “answer → play prompt → capture caller speech → then ring normally” flow. To support deeper call control, the app may need to act as the default dialer with InCallService, which is the official Android path for managing active calls. I am very familiar with Kotlin, Android Studio, CallScreeningService, InCallService, audio routing, speech detection, permissions, Pixel/Samsung compatibility, and APK delivery. I can review the exact call flow first and implement the closest fully supported solution without relying on unsupported hacks. I have 10+ years of Android development experience. Thanks for your attention.

Your screening flow maps cleanly onto Android's CallScreeningService, so I'd build it in Kotlin against the official Telephony APIs rather than any hacks that break on Pixel/Samsung stock builds. Here's the plan: the app registers as the call screening role (RoleManager ROLE_CALL_SCREENING), and on each incoming call checks the number against contacts. Known numbers pass straight through untouched. Unknown ones are silently answered, your recorded greeting is played into the call audio, then SpeechRecognizer plus an RMS/energy threshold on the mic stream listens for a few seconds. If real speech is detected, the call is handed back so your phone rings normally; if it's silence or no name given, the response is disallowed and sent to voicemail, no notification, no ring. The settings screen stays minimal: a master on/off toggle, record or pick a greeting file, and a slider for how long to wait for a reply. You get the full commented Android Studio project plus a signed installable APK. One thing to confirm: should calls from numbers already in your contacts always ring through without screening? Hey, I’ve carefully reviewed your project, and I understand you need a focused Android call-screening utility that identifies unknown callers, plays a configurable greeting, detects a spoken response, and routes the call without unnecessary logging or UI complexity. I can build this using Kotlin and the official Android Telephony/CallScreeningService APIs, with careful attention to current Pixel and Samsung behavior. I will implement the screening flow, configurable greeting, speech-detection logic, voicemail/pass-through routing, minimal settings screen, and thoroughly tested Android Studio project with a clean APK and documented source code. I have hands-on experience with similar Android projects and would be happy to share relevant examples during our discussion. One quick question: Should the greeting and speech detection run entirely on-device, without sending caller audio to any external service? Stock Android is the key constraint: CallScreeningService cannot answer a call, play audio, or capture the caller’s speech. It can identify incoming calls and allow, silence, or reject them, but Pixel and Samsung builds do not expose the live call audio needed for your greeting-and-name flow. Building the APK exactly as described with only official APIs would therefore produce something that cannot work reliably. A carrier/PBX or VoIP bridge can handle the greeting and speech detection, then ring your phone only when speech is heard; the Android app can remain a minimal settings controller. I’d start with a short feasibility design showing the supported call path and the lowest-complexity architecture before any full build. Are you open to routing unknown calls through a telephony provider or Asterisk server?

Hello!! I can develop the Android call-screening utility with a minimal settings interface, configurable greeting, speech detection, and reliable handling of unknown callers using the appropriate Android telephony capabilities. * Which Android versions and Pixel or Samsung models are your priority? * Should the greeting be recorded directly inside the application? * What silence duration should trigger voicemail handling? The implementation will use Kotlin and official Android APIs wherever supported, with careful handling of permissions, unknown callers, speech detection, and device compatibility. Any platform restrictions around automatically answering, transferring, or sending calls to voicemail will be identified early and handled with the closest reliable approach. Relevant Android telephony and automation projects have been completed with clean, maintainable code and practical device testing. Let us discuss the exact call flow and device requirements in chat. Hi, When a caller stays silent or doesn't speak their name, do you want the app to send them straight to voicemail immediately, or should there be a retry—like asking again before giving up? We've built Android utilities that hook into system call flows, so the core screening logic is solid ground for us. The budget and timeline above are just placeholders—once we nail down the retry behavior and any other edge cases, I'll send you a real estimate. Regards, Nurul Hasan

Respectfully, I reviewed your requirements and understand that you need a lightweight Android call-screening app that handles unknown callers before your phone rings. The flow is clear: answer the call, play a configurable greeting, detect whether the caller responds and then either pass the call through to you or send it to voicemail. I can build this in Kotlin using the official Android Telephony and CallScreeningService APIs with a minimal settings interface to enable or disable the service and update the greeting. I’ll keep the implementation clean and focused on compatibility with current stock Android devices such as Pixel and Samsung. One point I would first verify is whether the required call-answering and call-routing behavior is fully supported by the official Android APIs across the target Android versions, as some actions may be restricted by device and OS policies. I’ll provide the complete commented Android Studio project, source code and installable APK. Portfolio: https://www.freelancer.pk/u/zainalitariq245 Thanks.

Hello, The main challenge here is implementing the screening flow reliably on current Pixel and Samsung devices while staying within Android’s supported telephony APIs. I have 17+ years of development experience and can build the Android application in Kotlin with a clean, minimal settings interface and production-ready architecture. I’ll first validate the requested call flow against the current Android Telecom/CallScreeningService capabilities, then implement everything that can be reliably supported by stock Android without using fragile or unsupported telephony workarounds. Questions: 1. Is a carrier/VoIP/PBX-based solution acceptable if stock Android APIs cannot perform the interactive greeting and speech-routing portion? 2. Should unknown calls be screened based on contacts only, or should private/hidden numbers follow the same rule? My delivery approach: * Implement and configure Android CallScreeningService using official APIs. * Build the minimal settings screen and configurable greeting functionality. * Test thoroughly on Pixel and Samsung devices and provide the complete Android Studio project plus APK. I’ll also clearly identify any API-level limitations before implementation so there are no surprises during delivery. Looking forward for connecting. Best Regards, Nisha

Hello, this is a narrowly scoped Android utility, but the real engineering risk is OS-level call control behavior on current Pixel and Samsung builds, not the settings screen or prompt playback. I’ve built several production systems where the hard part was real-time decisioning inside constrained platform flows. In your case, the important part is whether the app can reliably detect an unknown caller, play a prompt, determine if speech occurred, and then hand off or suppress the call without race conditions. The closest relevant work on my side is AI Translator Plugin, which involved low-latency audio capture, speech detection, and response handling under live conditions. Enterprise ProxyTool Client App is also relevant from an architecture standpoint because it dealt with native client behavior around OS-managed services and strict runtime boundaries. I would structure this around a clean screening state machine, a minimal Kotlin settings layer, and a tight separation between call event handling, prompt playback, speech-presence detection, and routing decisions. The tradeoff to validate early is what Android actually permits versus what the desired flow implies. If useful, I can first sketch the call-screening state flow and identify the device-level constraints before full implementation. Clifton

Hello, I have already completed similar Android projects involving telephony features, background services, voice processing, and device level integrations. I have strong experience in web development, APIs, and scalable software solutions, along with Android development using Java and Kotlin. I can quickly understand the call screening flow and work with the official Android Telephony APIs to handle unknown callers, greetings, speech detection, and call routing. I’ll keep the UI minimal and focus on a clean Android Studio project with the required settings, configurable greeting, APK, and clear code. Do you need the screening service to work with every unknown number, including private or withheld numbers, or only numbers that are not saved in contacts? I’d be happy to discuss the Android limitations and approach in a quick meeting. I will share my portfolio in chat I look forward to hear from you. Thanks Best Regards, Mughira
