I need an experienced partner to take full ownership of our mixed Windows Server and open-source stack so that day-to-day operations remain stable and secure. The environment is built on multiple Proxmox hosts, a pfSense firewall, TrueNAS storage, site-to-site and client VPNs, and a Windows-based Active Directory domain that drives employee access. The immediate pain points are: • Inconsistent connectivity between virtual machines. • VPN throughput that drops under load, affecting remote users. • Drives on the TrueNAS box that will not stay mapped to certain Remote Desktop hosts. • A need for a reliable, centrally managed backup and recovery plan that covers Proxmox, TrueNAS and several production databases. • Ongoing Active Directory tasks—user onboarding/offboarding, group policy tweaks, and regular security patching. Core Windows Server responsibilities will include backup & recovery, Active Directory management, and applying security updates without disrupting service. Deliverables 1. Stabilise VM-to-VM and user VPN connectivity and document the root causes and fixes. 2. Review pfSense rules, site-to-site setup, update firmware, and optimise for speed and security. 3. Implement a tested backup strategy for Proxmox VMs, TrueNAS datasets and the listed databases, complete with restore drills. 4. Configure TrueNAS shares so that they stay consistently attached to remote desktop hosts after reboot or failover. 5. Keep Proxmox clusters patched, monitor resource usage and handle failover events. 6. Maintain Windows Server health: scheduled backups, AD cleanup, GPO review and monthly security patch roll-outs. 7. Provide a concise runbook and a monthly health report so any new technician can understand the setup in minutes. Acceptance criteria • All critical services must pass a documented fail-over and restore test. • Average VPN throughput meets or exceeds the current LAN-to-LAN average minus 10 %. • No unresolved network-related help-desk tickets remain open longer than one business day after assignment. • Backups show at least 30 days of restore points with automated integrity checks. I’m happy to grant console and remote access once an NDA is signed and will be available for quick clarifications throughout the engagement. We are looking for someone to partner with on an ongoing month to month basis, not just one-time services. Please quote your monthly retainer fee accordingly.

The TrueNAS share mapping issue after reboot usually points to either credential caching problems in Windows or stale SMB sessions that don't survive a restart. I'd start by checking how those shares are being mounted—Group Policy preferences with saved credentials tend to be more reliable than manual map-network-drive setups, and I'd verify SMB signing requirements match between TrueNAS and your domain controllers. I built out a complete VPS infrastructure for an Australian software company last year—KeyHelp, MariaDB, SSL, the whole stack—so I'm comfortable working across mixed Linux and Windows environments. For the VPN throughput drops, I'd dig into pfSense's traffic shaping rules and check if there's packet fragmentation or MTU mismatches causing the slowdown under load. Backup strategy would likely involve Proxmox Backup Server for the VMs and a combination of TrueNAS replication plus Veeam or Bareos for the databases, but I'd want to see the current setup first to confirm the best approach. I read through your environment details and immediate pain points, and I can completely take ownership of stabilizing this stack for you. The intermittent VM connectivity and TrueNAS disconnects on your RDS hosts sound like classic timing and network driver bottlenecks, which I can resolve by optimizing your Proxmox VirtIO interfaces and enforcing strict network-wait Group Policies. For the VPN throughput drops, I’ll audit your pfSense configuration to ensure hardware crypto acceleration (AES-NI) is actually being utilized by the underlying hypervisor hardware so performance doesn't tank under load. For the long-term management and backups, I plan to deploy Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) to handle deduplicated, fast VM snapshots alongside automated TrueNAS ZFS datasets, keeping a strict 30-day retention window with automated integrity checks as requested. I will also handle the ongoing Active Directory tasks, routine patching windows, and compile a clear, concise runbook so that the entire infrastructure is fully mapped out and easy for anyone to understand. I am looking for a long-term partnership and can handle this on a month to month retainer of $220 CAD, which will cover proactive health monitoring, scheduled maintenance, and help desk escalations. I'm ready to sign the NDA immediately so we can get console access sorted and start diving into the logs to stabilize these connections. Best regards, Tumelo Banda

Hi, The TrueNAS shares not staying mapped after reboot is almost always a race condition between the SMB service and the RDP session startup — fixable with a scheduled task or login script, not a storage issue. For the broader scope I'd cover: - pfSense rules audit, site-to-site VPN tuning, firmware update - Proxmox cluster patching and failover configuration - Backup strategy across Proxmox VMs, TrueNAS datasets and production databases with 30-day restore points and automated integrity checks - Active Directory cleanup, GPO review and monthly security patch roll-outs - Runbook + monthly health report I work across Linux, Windows Server, and cloud infra in production environments, and I'm comfortable with the kind of mixed stack you're describing. One question: are the production databases on Windows Server (SQL Server) or running on Linux VMs inside Proxmox? That changes the backup tooling.

The bid amount and timeline above are rough placeholders , we'll firm those up once we've had a chance to walk through the environment with you. From the description, you've got a mixed stack that's developed a few stubborn fault lines: VM connectivity that isn't reliable, VPN throughput collapsing under load, TrueNAS shares that won't stay mapped after a reboot, and no solid backup-and-restore story tying it all together. On top of that, the Active Directory side needs consistent upkeep , onboarding, GPO, patching , without anyone dropping the ball. The goal is a stable, documented environment where a new technician can pick up a runbook and not be lost on day one. Here's how we'd approach this: - Connectivity audit: Dig into the Proxmox virtual networking layer first , bridge configs, VLAN tagging, MTU mismatches , to find what's breaking VM-to-VM traffic and document the root cause before touching anything. - pfSense and VPN: Review firewall rules, clean up the site-to-site config, push the latest firmware, and tune the VPN setup (OpenVPN or WireGuard depending on what's running) to get throughput back under load. - TrueNAS share persistence: Lock down the SMB/NFS share configuration and set up proper mount scripts or DFS targets on the RDS hosts so shares survive reboots and failover without manual intervention. - Backup and DR: Build a tested backup strategy covering Proxmox VMs (PBS snapshots), TrueNAS datasets, and production databases, with documented restore drills so you've got proof it actually works. - Active Directory and patching: Handle user lifecycle tasks, GPO reviews, and roll out monthly security patches on a schedule that doesn't bite production hours. After a short scope call where we can see the actual topology, we'll put together a written proposal covering deliverables, milestones, and a firm price. Want to jump on a quick call this week to walk through the setup? Best, 96 Studio

Hello, from my understanding, you're looking for a long-term infrastructure partner to stabilize and maintain your hybrid environment. The immediate priorities include resolving VM connectivity issues, optimizing VPN performance, fixing TrueNAS drive mappings, implementing a reliable backup and recovery strategy, maintaining Proxmox clusters, managing Active Directory and Group Policies, and ensuring the entire infrastructure remains secure, monitored, and well documented. I can perform a complete infrastructure audit, identify the root causes of the current issues, optimize network and virtualization performance, implement automated backup and recovery procedures, harden security, and provide ongoing monthly maintenance with proactive monitoring, documentation, and regular health reports. A couple of questions: 1. Approximately how many Proxmox hosts, virtual machines, and Windows Servers are currently running in your environment? 2. Do you already have a preferred backup solution (Proxmox Backup Server, Veeam, etc.), or would you like me to recommend the most suitable approach? Regards, Dharam

⭐️⭐️ Hi there! ? The VPN throughput drop under load and TrueNAS shares not staying mapped are usually two symptoms of the same root cause area — routing/MTU issues on pfSense and stale SMB sessions on reboot — so I'd treat those as one diagnostic pass rather than two separate fixes, since patching them independently often just hides the real issue. I've managed mixed Proxmox/pfSense/TrueNAS/AD environments like this before, including stabilizing VPN throughput under load and fixing share remounting issues after failover — the kind of "stable but fragile" setup this sounds like. I'd start with a diagnostic pass on pfSense rules and VPN config plus the TrueNAS share/mount behavior, since those are your active pain points, then move into backup/restore testing for Proxmox, TrueNAS, and the databases — untested backups are the riskiest item on this list until proven with an actual restore drill. Key thing is running real fail-over and restore tests before calling anything "done," not just confirming backups exist — that's the gap that bites people during an actual outage. You'll get a runbook and monthly health report so any technician can pick this up, not just me. Happy to sign the NDA and start with remote access once granted. Monthly retainer: $180 CAD What's the current backup tool in use for Proxmox/TrueNAS, if any, or is this starting from scratch?
