TITLE: Political and religious ideology in the Aeneid: "The right man for the job?" To Pass this you need to demonstrate in depth understanding of significant ideologies in the classical world. TASK: -Write the dialogue between a Roman father and son during the 1st century CE, who feel differently about the actions of Aeneas, OR an essay with annotated images, in relation to aspects of Roman political and religious ideology. -In the course of the dialogue demonstrate that you understand the political and religious ideologies represented in The Aeneid and their connection to the socio-political life of Rome during the time of Augustus (27 BCE to14 CE approximately). You could include the two men's opinions of, and attitudes to, aspects such as: - relationship between gods and men - role of fate - role of the individual - duty to the state - connections between ideals represented in The Aeneid and the reforms of Augustus. - political propaganda - the ideological justification of 'one man government' - politics and the pax deorum (peace of the god) You may include other relevant aspects. Have the two men quote from primary sources where appropriate to support their opinions. -In your dialogue/essay make sure you show insight into the political and religious ideologies of Rome as demonstrated in The Aeneid by including sufficient detail and evidence for each of the points you make.
