Freelance Mechanical CAD Designer-Reverse Engineering/Fusion 360 Rapid Parts Depot is seeking experienced freelance mechanical CAD designers to provide on-demand support for reverse engineering and modeling custom industrial parts and components. Our customers are manufacturing plants, distribution facilities, food and beverage operations, packaging facilities, and other industrial companies that need replacement parts manufactured quickly. Many projects will begin with a physical part rather than an existing CAD drawing. We will provide the designer with dimensional measurements, photographs, sketches, existing drawings when available, and/or 3D scan/mesh files. The designer will convert this information into an accurate, manufacturing-ready 3D CAD model that can be used for CNC machining. Typical parts are relatively simple mechanical components manufactured primarily from engineering plastics such as UHMW, Acetal/Delrin, Nylon, HDPE, PTFE, and similar materials. Examples include: -Guide rails and chain guides - Wear strips and wear pads -Machine guards and covers -Brackets and Sensor Mounts -Spacers and locating blocks -Slide blocks -Transfer Plates -Product guides -Fixtures and jigs -Change parts -Scrapers, stops, and bumpers -Other custom 2D and 2.5D industrial components Scope of Work The freelance designer may be asked to: -Reverse engineer parts from measurements, photographs, sketches, drawings, or 3D scan data -Import or evaluate STL, OBJ, mesh, or scan data when provided -Recreate parts as clean, editable, parametric CAD models -Identify critical dimensions and request additional measurements when necessary -Correct for wear, damage, deformation, or broken features when reverse engineering an existing part -Apply appropriate tolerances based on the function of the component -Design models specifically for efficient CNC manufacturing -Produce manufacturing-ready CAD files -Make minor revisions based on inspection of the first manufactured part Preferred Software Autodesk Fusion is strongly preferred. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor or other professional mechanical CAD platforms is also valuable, but final files must be compatible with our manufacturing workflow. Experience with 3D scanning, mesh-to-CAD, Quicksurface, Mesh2Surface, or similar reverse-engineering tools is a significant plus. Many of our parts are straightforward 2D and 2.5D components that an experienced mechanical CAD designer should be able to model quickly from accurate measurements. For appropriate projects, our goal is to receive completed CAD models within approximately 30-60 minutes of receiving complete project information. More complex parts will naturally require additional time. We will prioritize freelancers who can provide dependable, rapid-response availability during agreed upon hours. Ideal Freelancer We are looking for someone with: -Strong mechanical CAD experience -Excellent Autodesk Fusion skills -Experience designing parts CNC machining -Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, fits, holes, slots, pockets, and mechanical features. -Experience reverse engineering physical components -Ability to interpret measurements, photographs, and sketches -Ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy -Good communication skills -Availability for recurring, on-demand projects Industrial manufacturing, machine-shop, CNC programming, mechanical design, or maintenance-related experience is highly desirable. This is Intended to Become an Ongoing Relationship. We are developing a network of qualified freelance CAD designers who can support Rapid Parts Depot as customer projects arrive. Work volume may initially be inconsistent. Some days may have no projects, while other days may require multiple rapid turnaround models. Our objective is to develop relationships with a small number of reliable designers who become familiar with our standards, typical parts, CAD templates, and manufacturing requirements. As the business grows, project volume should increase. Compensation We are open to hourly, per-project, or predetermined fixed pricing for common part categories. Because many projects are relatively simple and turnaround time is important, we are particularly interested in developing standardized pricing for repeatable project types rather than negotiating every individual job. When applying please provide: -Your hourly rate -Your primary CAD software -Your experience with Autodesk Fusion -Your experience reverse engineering parts -Your experience working with 3D scan or mesh files -Your experience designing parts for CNC machining -Your typical availability, working hours, and time zone -Examples of mechanical parts you have modeled -How quickly you could typically complete a relatively simple 2D/2.5D mechanical part when provided complete dimensions and photographs. Please include examples of actual mechanical components rather than architectural drawings, floor plans, renderings, or general graphic design work.

This is exactly the type of CAD modelling and reverse-engineering work I do regularly. I am Irish, now living in the Philippines, with 15+ years of mechanical design and fabrication experience. I work only in Autodesk Inventor for 3D CAD modelling, with AutoCAD used for 2D/DXF work when required. I can deliver clean STEP, DXF, DWG, STL, and PDF outputs suitable for CNC and manufacturing workflows. Please note that I do not work natively in Fusion 360. If native Fusion files are mandatory, I would not be the right fit. However, if STEP/DXF/DWG files are acceptable for your manufacturing workflow, I can support this work accurately and efficiently. I have strong experience recreating mechanical parts from photos, sketches, measurements, old drawings, and reference samples. Typical parts I work with include brackets, guides, wear parts, spacers, locating blocks, guards, covers, plates, fixtures, and CNC-ready 2D/2.5D components. For scan or mesh files, I can use them as reference to rebuild proper solid CAD geometry in Inventor, and I will request extra measurements where accuracy is critical rather than guessing from worn or damaged parts. For a simple 2D/2.5D part with complete dimensions and photos, I can usually complete the CAD in around 30–60 minutes. My suggested starting rate is $38/hour, or fixed pricing per part once your common categories are defined.
