After nine years building web applications, I've learned that good software engineering is less about knowing the latest framework and more about making decisions that won't cause problems later. The best code I've written is code that someone else could modify a year later without needing to ask me how it works. I...After nine years building web applications, I've learned that good software engineering is less about knowing the latest framework and more about making decisions that won't cause problems later. The best code I've written is code that someone else could modify a year later without needing to ask me how it works. I specialize in the JavaScript ecosystem—React on the frontend, Node.js on the backend, PostgreSQL for data. This stack lets me move quickly while building applications that scale properly when needed. I've worked with other technologies when projects required them, but this combination handles most web application needs efficiently. On the frontend, I build React applications with TypeScript because I've debugged too many runtime errors that static typing would have caught. I implement proper state management without making Redux overcomplicated, create reusable component libraries that teams actually use instead of building everything from scratch repeatedly, optimize rendering performance so applications feel responsive, and handle form validation thoroughly because users absolutely will try to break things. My backend work focuses on API design that makes sense to other developers. I structure endpoints logically, validate all inputs because trusting client-side validation is asking for security problems, implement proper error handling with meaningful status codes and messages, write database queries that perform well even with large datasets, and document endpoints so frontend developers know what they're working with. I've integrated payment processors, authentication systems, file uploads, email services, and various third-party APIs. Database design requires thinking about how data actually gets used. I create schemas with appropriate foreign keys and constraints, write migrations that can be rolled back if something goes wrong, add indexes based on actual query patterns not guesses, and monitor slow queries that need optimization. I've handled database scaling, replication setup, and migrations on production systems with millions of rows without causing downtime. I deploy primarily to AWS—EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda when serverless makes sense. I set up automated deployment pipelines, implement logging and monitoring, configure load balancers when needed, and handle the infrastructure requirements of most web applications. I'm not replacing your DevOps team, but I can manage deployment for projects that don't need dedicated infrastructure specialists. Looking for projects where quality matters and where technical debt is addressed instead of accumulating until the codebase becomes unmaintainable. mindre
