I have a fitness game in development that has hit a snag. It’s a first person hiking game that allows exercisers to walk around a tropical Island. You can see an example here [login to view URL] . There are no animated characters. It’s an exercise game and the hiker doesn’t have to steer down the path. To move down the path, they “walk” on two points on a game mat that correspond to the “G” and “H” keys on my keyboard. For programming purposes, “walking” with your fingers on the “G” and ”H” keys moves you down the path. Stopping with both fingers on both keys or leaving the keyboard completely, pauses the walker where they are. The walker is constrained to the path and there is no steering mechanism. I also have the capability to reverse direction by hitting the “+” key, a different spot on the mat. My program counts the steps and calculates calories and distance. Please incorporate a step counter into your controller script design.
My problem is at path intersections. I have both 3way and 4way intersections on the Island. I cannot figure out a way for the walker to select in advance which direction they want to go. I would like it if the walker could switch to the F and G keys and continue around the corner to the left or , switch to the H and J keys and continue around the corner to the right. If they stay on the G and H, they continue through the intersection. Please comment the lines of your code so that a novice, like me, can understand it.
Please submit a playable scenario that is nothing more than a figure 8 path that I can walk down. I want to be able to turn left or right and if I don’t choose to turn, I continue walking straight through the intersection.
The winner will be the programmer that submits the best working scenario and the cleanest simplest working script.

as far as i am concerning we are talking about a demo of the unity software, which comes default with the software, and you want us to create a mean of sorting something specific out in terms of UI interaction, HUID. It seems to me an interesting exercise, and although I am not a veteran in unity (I have some small brief experience with it), I would like to give it a try so that i can try to solve this out. can you please send me your exact same version of the proJect, so that i can implement the script, in a simple way? cheers

Hi tmm. The built in Unity controller is a press to go a direction, no exercise involved at all. I need a control that is driven by constant movement. You might want to read all my clarifications before you begin. Here' my current project https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xdsj1oefzzlxrvi/AAAju-xsIUgZokz14YejwzqVa?dl=0

my university is 4.0 let me update and try to run the full program again. It would be great if you could add your controller to kmy environment and test it there. 'Ll get back with you.

That's it that's awesome. You are the only one who has understood exactly what I needed. You are currently in 1st place. I'm just being picky now, but, would it be possible to make the course adjustments a little slower and not so instantaneous. It's great that I can just build a path out of the waypoints, but, if they could be gently course corrections it would be awesome. Also, while you are at it could you assign a key to turn the speed and distance display off and on? I can't think of anything else. Please comment your code very well for me. I'm not a very good programmer. Thanks.

This shouldn't be too hard. How do you want to handle this? Do you post your project somewhere and I change it so it works as specified or do you want me to create a demo myself which shocases the code which you would then need to adapt to your game?

Please keep in mind that the speed of the player down the path is that of a walker or hiker, not a runner. Also, imagine you are walking down a country path and you come to an intersection. You don't walk to the middle, spin yourself 90 degrees and then continue walking. You start working toward the edge of the path and then make a gentle arc around the corner. Please don't give up on me. I can't wait to see the creative solutions.

in My Entry it will depends on Path. how you draw your path. if you draw exact 90 degree then it will take turn like that. my code is simply follow the path. you need to create a path like that. Thats it.

I was not clear enough on the way the intersection turns work and that is my fault. Ideally, immediately before the intersection, I would like the player to switch to either the F and G keys (to turn left) or the H and J keys to turn right. If they continue "walking" on the G and H keys, they go straight through the intersection.

Heres a question, after turning for example left, do you go forward with the f and g keys permamently? and what should happen if you want to turn left again? f and d keys? what if you run out of keys?:)

Okay, so do you want a controller that can use G and H to walk down a figure 8 path, or do you want a script that can detect the presence of an intersection and offer a solution?

I don't want a solution offered, I want to just pick where I want to go and not necessarily stop at all.

I think I want both. You use G and H to move down the path. When you get to an intersection you press either a left or right key and continue walking on the G and H. If you had pressed the left key you will turn left and start following that path. If you had pressed the right key, you will turn right and continue walking down that path. If you don't press a turn key, you will continue walking straight through the intersection. It's sort of human powered movement. It's for exercise.
