Konkurrence Instruktioner

The purpose of this project is to re-create the 12 Figures in a simple sketched style using a highlighter for the occasional dash of color. Focus is on the sketch. Then, augment the sketches with whimsical and expressive cartoons demonstrating scenes of human interaction and emotion as seen in "Style_example_x". Be creative in the scenes you sketch around the edges but maintain the content of each figure. Sketches should be rough and unpolished--pretend that the Figures are for a boring science assignment in school and that you're doodling for fun in and around the margins to spice up the dullness of the assignment.

Sketches will be placed in the chapters of this website "Popularityexplained.com." Please see the same for context. Start with 1 or 2 sketches for style and then produce the rest once you feel confident you can win the competition.

Hint: take a quick glance at the website to get context and ideas for the scenes you should draw!

For an additional bonus of $50 ($350 + $50), you can choose to post a link to the website on your personal Facebook profile once your art is uploaded in order to show off your work.

Good luck!

whether the style that is needed is realism or cartoons?

The style of the figure is realism. The figures should be bold sketched pencil lines. The characters are whimsical, cartoonish, and entertaining. Think about the Minions in "Despicable Me." They're cute and fun to watch as they act out funny and over the top scenes.

Hi there, i would love to enter this contest but i feel the brief is a little bit confusing and maybe why a lot of people arent creating exactly what you are looking for, im not sure if i got the right message...

      Hi Lara
Thank you for the question. Effectively, I want you to imagine this scenario:
"the professor asks you to complete an assignment where you need to reproduce all of the 12 figures found on the website. You have 1 pencil and 1 or 2 highlighters. After reproducing the boring figures with hard lines and simplicity, you get bored and start to doodle various scenes as they come to your mind. They cartoonish doodles should be rough but fun to look at and subtly entertaining."

Tim, Tom, and Thomas is actually just one of the 12 graphs. It is not the focus. In fact, Tim, Tom, and Thomas are part of the figure and therefore should be plain and sterile. Around them, you might throw in 1 or 2 doodles that are fun to look at and loosely illustrate the content.

First I make a scene and then the expression of the character will be defined by the context of the scene, am I right?

First recreate the diagram using pencil sketch lines. Then, place some expressive characters in around around the edges doing various things--playing, drinking, partying, fighting. Whatever you think fits and is visually appealing.

If you think about a "Where's Wald" cartoon, the characters are all doing independent things with an entire range of emotions. There is no real focus but rather an array of interesting details to appreciate.

What are the emotions you are looking for specifically ? That will help a lot so that those can be done and shared.
