Contest Brief

So here's a band promo pic (HermanBand_09.jpg) that we took last year, and I'd like to see what you super talented creative people can do with it! In the picture we're all playing invisible instruments, and some of them seem obvious (triangle, upright bass, etc.), but you can use your imagination and put whatever you think might fit in there. And they can be real or drawn in... cartoon instruments might be fun. They don't necessarily need to be musical instruments, even... maybe there are other things that could work, like we're all eating giant sandwiches or something. I don't know... Please be creative. I'm looking for something that stands out, is fun or funny, and works to give the impression that we're a really fun and energetic live band for kids and families.

I also need us cut out from the background and put onto a new background that's more interesting and better looking. I've attached a couple of pictures from previous contests to give you an idea of what I might like as far as the background, and also how we should look in terms of color tone and image touch-up. (Do not use those pictures for the contest!) The color tone on the original picture is pretty decent, but you should touch it up a bit, perhaps.

One important note is that you cannot use any licensed material (Disney, Marvel, etc.). I also don't really care for musical notes as a graphic choice... It's already obvious that we're a band, and I almost never like to see musical notes in there for these kind of things. I say "almost," because maybe you know a way to do it that looks cool. But as a heads up, you're probably better off steering clear.

The final size should be about the same as the original, at 300 dpi, and I would like the full PSD file(s) with layers. I can only choose and pay one winner the full amount, but for some past contests there have been times where I really liked another picture or two and offered a smaller amount as a consolation prize to be able to use those pictures, too. So hopefully you win, but you might have a chance to win something, regardless.

I will rate every entry and try to comment here and there on specific entries. If I rate something 3 or 4 stars, those will be in consideration. 1 or 2 means something isn't quite there to be considered. I will post to the main board periodically (I didn't realize until recently that every post I do to the main board gets e-mailed to everyone), with some general comments about the direction of entries that will hopefully be helpful to all.

Just so it's clear to everyone, the picture you're supposed to edit for the contest is HermanBand_09.jpg. The other two are just examples of backgrounds that I liked from previous contests.
