I would like a drawing or illustration for the prolog of my science fiction book titled 'Baktu'. This book will be the sequel to 'Negative Zero', showing at http://www.amazon.com/Negative-Zero-Tomek-Jimm-Grogan/dp/149978340X .
The minimum resolution is 300 dpi (300 dots per inch). The width should be 6.25 inches wide, the width of the page with bleed. The height can range from 3 inches (banner over chapter header) to 9.25 inches (full page with bleed). I will consider monochrome or color.
I have an illustrator doing an illustration for each regular chapter but she didn't want to do the introductory prolog. That's where you come in.
Attached is the pdf file with the prolog text. (minor editing may happen before it's published.) Please skim through and find a scene in it that you would like to illustrate. Your entry should be free of copyright restrictions so I can use it in my book, and possibly in any advertising or marketing related to the book.
As far as picture specifics, that depends on the scene you choose.
If you show the inside of Tomek's spaceship, the interior is on the previous book cover at the link above. But don't feel like you need to do the same art style, nor even the same picture details. As long as your picture does not conspicuously contradict the previous cover it should be good. Or you can show a different angle. And don't show the projection of the octopus creature, he is not in the prolog. There is a picture of Tomek himself there too. Again, don't feel too restricted to the previous art.
If you want to show the outside of Tomek's little spaceship, the previous book described it as
"the grotesque black ship, bristling with instruments of death."
and
"Tomek felt more secure just looking at his beloved ship. The black ship was four times longer and wider than his commuter car, boasted four projectile and five laser weapons, and possessed a main propulsion drive too big to look right on such a small ship. His car was a silly toy by comparison. Building the Vigilante was his biggest technical accomplishment."
Before and during the prolog, the ship should be showing signs of battle damage.
If you show him crash landed on the planet, I think the prolog itself says everything.
