We are experimenting with a possible new menu system for our online application kitovu.com.

We are happy with the functionality of the proposed new left menu but not satisfied with the aesthetics. Can you suggest improvements? please focus entirely on aesthetics. It needs to blend in with the rest of the system.

our main objectives are
- no dropdowns
- no functional changes
- intuitive UI so wording is generally necessary in places
- no change to icons
- must work OK on a touch device
- we are ONLY interested in the area bounded by the red box in the attached image.
