Contest Brief

The machine I have is an industrial oven, currently we have outdate Human Machine Interface (HMI) screen graphics and views. Want to have better view of machine and graphics to be used on our HMI screen where operators work with it every day.

This is only for the single page view. All the pages shown are this single HMI screen just at different points of operation. Goal is to show operation of machine in a graphical way without having to show numbers so that you can visually tell what is happening. Also want to this to look sharp and modern, current look is very basic and old.
Example: To tell temperature of a chamber there would be a gradient change in the color such as blue color base for cold and red for higher temp end.
Example: Burner flame, current there are two graphics, one large and one small. Want to be able to show flame proportional to current size.
Example: Air graphics, same as flame, only have two graphics one small and one large, want this to be proportional to what current air at that particular point is.
o When Floor Air is in use the gases in the chamber are swirling or turbulent. Would like way to show this happening in the chamber graphically.
o Middle air also creates some gas mixing with the exhaust and inject air. Would like a graphical way to show this as well.
- For the time of operation that is fine but want to show a way to say how close operation is to being completed. When normally ran we have premade programs that will do the machine operation so we know when the full operation is closer to be done.
- Any other way to increase visual aesthetics relating to operating the machine.

Here are details on accepted file formats. Can only use still images. To get a movement look would have to cycle through use of several images, cannot use GIF type files.
*.bmp, *.ico, *.emf, *.wmf, *.gif, *.tif, *.png, *.jpeg or *.jpg

At end of contest will need to collect all graphics created for this.

*** If you need any more detail just leave a comment and I will get back as quick as possible.

“The design and attention to detail were great. Even though this was a contest multiple revisions were submitted each one better than the last and comments given were taken fully into consideration.”

For connection software of the HMI to the computer, we use Siemens Portal

We have a PLC that operates the machine which is Siemens. We then connect the PLC to a computer. We then connect our HMI screen to the computer.

So basically our system can only use general image files, no GIF. but you can stagger 3 or so images to create a staggered look.

To everyone, do not use the diamond plate type look in any graphics, it is not something desired for the look of this machine

So basically all you need is a 1 graphic design for only one screen for one point of operation?

There is a single screen depicting the machine, but there are multiple graphics inside this machine to show operation such as flames for the burners, air coming out, flow of gases / exhaust.

for these processes need sensors to detect all quantities that you enter and then you go. To have some graphics have implemented some parameters. You can create these parameters in MATLAB. Or if you want to make an interface for details of what you have in pdf (HMI Screen Shots with comments), this can be done easily.

Control panel has a monitor mounted on it and a key board and mouse are used to interface with this HMI screen. We already having software and machine sensor to tell what is happening, I am looking for in this contest better graphics that show up on the HMI / control screen. Does that make more sense?

Also want it to be easier to see how process is going. Right now there are a lot numbers you have to read. What if you can just tell from graphics how everything is operating? Like when process is getting done some white or gray material collects on the floor of the top chamber and once it is a large pile you process is complete.

I am looking for a better looking interface. Right now when you operate the machine this current look you get for all operation features. I am looking for graphics to be sharp, like what you would get on a iphone.
