Design two characters for a learning and literacy website

  • Status: Closed
  • Prize: $50
  • Entries Received: 2
  • Winner: Ewehouse

Contest Brief

The characters are a bird (cockatoo) and a dragonfly, who bask in warmth e.g. the sun. They should have a dark outline and look hand-drawn e.g. the work of Mo Williams. The design should be mat and minimalist..

The dragon fly is smart and focused. The cockatoo has a bit of an attitude, likes looking at things, and sometimes gets into trouble. The crest of the cockatoo can be arranged to represent different moods. The cuckatoo is white with a yellow crest. The dragonfly's body is thin and long and flies, so does not need legs..

Attached are images of the characters in real life.

These designed images will be used on a website that children of all ages (pre-school - teenagers) and parents will access. The characters should therefore not be too childish. The background of the website will be a light colour, but not white.

To enter the competition please provide one image that depicts both characters, as described above. Please also provide an image of each character separately.

We will select one winner. There will then be further work for the illustrator, as the characters will later need to be updated with changing moods and activities.

Have a look at #17. I've tried to keep it minimal. Do you prefer it to be more simplistic?

Thanks. More simplistic and a very light colored background would be better.

Hello, I am interested in your contest and already have some ideas. Can you tell me do you wish simple illustrations of both characters or something more complex like character sheet where characters can be seen from more angles?

One more day to go before the competition closes. Thanks for all the entries so far. They are great to see. For any of you still to submit or still thinking about your designs, the idea we originally had was for characters that have a minimalist style, similar to the work of Mo Williams http://cache1.bdcdn.net/assets/images/book/medium/9781/8442/9781844285136.jpg or the Nosy Crow http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTkyCbM_2xBMBeD5RKIaiF5wlTGxAo0G9VK0-1umH-TBt360RSA Hope that helps.

Hi Kate, I'm very interesting in working on these fun characters for you. What are the genders of the creatures?
