Contest Brief

We need to give a unique style to a 3D Map that will be used in a signage system.
For now, we have designed the map, but it is too simple, and it needs to be more expressive, more dynamic, more human.

For the contest, we provide :
- The map in vectors (ai file) and in 3D (3dm and 3ds files - we can provide other file types if needed)
- A first basic rendering of the map (jpeg file)
- An older rendering that was made and that was not expressive and dynamic enough (ai file)
- A satellite view of the site

To begin the contest, you can either choose to work on only a part of the map or on the whole map.
We will directly tell the participants if we like what they've done or not, and make precise comments on their work.
If we validate a style for a part of the map, you will have to go further and apply it on the whole map.
The winner of the contest will have to apply the style on the whole map and provide a vectorized version (ai file)

What needs to appear on the map :
- The colors of the different neighborhoods of the site (colors used on the jpeg file)
- The streets and different access to the buildings (please make a difference between the streets that appear in 2 different shades of grey on the old version of the map)
- The names of streets, and numbers of entrances and buildings (use the same names and numbers than on the old version). Use the font 'Dosis', but you can determine another style for displaying them.

Ideas for making the map more expressive and dynamic (these are just random ideas... other ideas are welcome!) :
- using textures on the buildings/roads
- using handmade style for the colors and/or for the lines.
- using different thicknesses or colors of lines for the differents types of elements
- addind shades on the differents sides of buildings or on the floor
- adding trees, or grass texture (see where are the trees and green zones on the satellite view), but pay attention that we cannot use too much other colors, because the colors are used for the neighborhoods!

It does not have to be a copy of these examples. It has to stay more simple, so that the people can quickly understand the structure of the site and the locations of the roads and buildings.

Do you want textures on buildings? ex: different rooftops, windows, different textures on walls....

  Hi. Yes, why not.
  We don't exactly know what needs to be done to make it more dynamic, expressive, and human. Maybe adding textures could be a solution. But maybe not windows, it would be too detailled...

Comment about the proposition n°2 of alexeyfedorenko (http://goo.gl/DNBuRS) :
- the colors of the neighborhodds have to stay the same than in the 140730_3D_MAP.jpg file.
- the details of the buildings and roads have to be visible. the map will be printed on a large board so that the people who come to the site understand where they have to go. you should work only on a part of the map to make your tests, in a bigger resolution.

Comment about the proposition of alexeyfedorenko (http://goo.gl/xG2s65) :
- the view of the site must absolutely stay the same than in the 140730_3D_MAP.jpg file.
- the space around the map, where you have put trees, has to stay white. As you see on the sattelite view, the site is not in the middle of a forest. When i say that we can add trees, it means adding trees inside te site, where you see trees on the sattelite view.
- the render has to be simple, more with a handmade style. not a photo realistic render.
