Contest Brief

I need an illustration of a map that will be used as a game board
The colors and detail should be simple (it is a background to play - not distracting) it can be largely stylized, I will be overlaying on to it graphical icons of castles and dividing it into areas so it should not be too crowded with detail to allow me flexibility of where to put the areas and images.

The map should have central mountains, a lake and river on one side and a forest on the other, (those are the key features) - then plains or fields or elsewhere and maybe some tiny houses and trees and hills dotted around sporadically to give it some texture. The key will be making the main areas (ie not the mountains, lake or forest) interesting without being noisy, hence my thought about dotting trees, fields etc around. A very basic black and white outline of what I want is attached

The map proportions should be A4 - (297 x 210mm) (that is the size that will be printed) at 300dpi full color
these are some styles that I like as design guidance,(not to dictate style)

    Hello,
I had a question regarding the sample image you gave us. The river leading away from the mountains to the south ends in little x's, which I interpret as a marsh. Is this a key feature of the map? Have I interpreted correctly?
