I am looking for an easy-to-read logo with the name "VIZDEX".... a specialized visual indexing engine that operates behinds the scenes on a website. I'm open to how it's presented... VIZdex or VizDex or vizDEX or whatever... but the design MUST be very readable. It would be nice to have some GRAPHIC/ICON along with the letters... but just the letters would be OK if they are stylized in a way that grabs your attention or looks impressive.

I would probably like to stick with primary colors or a complementary palette that catches the eye... don't want anything too gaudy or garish.

Also, I want the ORIGINAL ART file (and font names used) so I can adapt the logo in the future if needed. I want the LAYERED file, Photoshop .psd or Fireworks .png would be preferable.

LAST... I know you spend time on this content, so let's please spend it well. DO NOT just post a message asking me to look at your entry... trust me, I WILL look at it, see my last contest, for example:

And I will post comments from time to time (or send a private message) to share my thoughts... which guides this to a better logo for me. I will provide some feedback. Feel free to ask specific questions, though.

I'm sorry but I probably misguided you with the gear, even though it makes sense to me I haven't seen any "look" that is right for this product... so, let's try for a "timeline" image.

I'll describe the timeline itself: it has a horizontal bar across the top (w/bars and dashes for years, months, etc). Data appear in small boxes below the timeline. There is a line dropping down from the timeline to the box. Not all boxes are in a row, some are higher and some are lower than others. You've seen this kind of diagram before.

A couple of thoughts:
--- maybe a little icon and that is placed next to the (EASY TO READ) logo letters
--- maybe the logo letters themselves are in little data boxes below a timeline
--- BEST of all would be YOUR creative idea that just POPS!

Not a big complicated logo, but still the appropriate appearance. I DO appreciate all the effort you have put in! thank you!

about my comment on DIFFERENT ideas...

I should also say GOOD JOB to iStyler... entry #71 still sticks in the back of my mind. Not so much for the pointing finger (have seen imagery like that before) but for playing with the Z... by turning it a little, it looks a bit like an N and you can start to see the word INDEX in the name. Intriguing. That is not a goal of this design but does show creativity. Nice.

Even though the entries aren't my top favorites so far, props to MINIMAYNIE for the VARIETY of logos. Few designers can come up with ideas DIFFERENT than their own regular "look"... nice!

Unless somebody comes up with something really interesting, the winner here will probably be closer to GENERAL DESIGN of #126 than not... but I'm still undecided on colors.

I've re-rated the entries to show the designs I prefer so far. I really like the idea of the timeline SYMBOLIZED along the top and I also like the drop down line and BOX concept.. with some kind of DOTS at the top of the line, like 101, 105, 100, 74, 104). My original thought was to have a box AROUND each letter in the name (74 does this on one letter). 104 has little boxes for part of each letter but that doesn't look good... maybe somebody has another take on this?

COLORS: I'm leaning toward the combination in 98 but am open.

TEXT: I do want to separate VIZ and DEX, whether with color or upper/lower case or alignment. It's OK for it to be a little casual but still needs to lean toward a serious/business look.

I appreciate the many entries! Here's some feedback:

1. Many entries were rejected because they're not much more than just the words (which I could do) or are simply not along the right track (they look good but are not right for this particular project).

2. Though it's not exactly what I had mentally pictured, I like the direction of 74 and 88. Here's a graphic (NOT MINE) that SORT OF shows you... I was trying to describe the date timeline above and boxes below (ignore top boxes in this photo... don't like). I am NOT asking for THIS exactly... just something symbolic of it (which these top 2 entries lean toward).

3. I sort of like the letters on several but not the logo/icon part, such as 72 and 92.

4. I'm intrigued by the handling of the X on 57 and 76... maybe some possibilities there (though I do NOT like the mirror shadow on the V on 57 and 43... confusing).

Some notes since I've rejected a number of entries to keep the list down to the best. Many are too busy.. 25, for example... maybe some some good parts but way too much.

I want enough STYLE to set the logo apart but not so much that it is harder to read (like 44 and 45), confusing to the eye, or cluttered... simpler is better.

Perhaps I made a mistake suggesting the gear symbol (this is all about a visual indexing "engine"... a software tool). I don't know what the icon or art should be, but I do think it needs something... so get creative. I'm open to ideas, just keep them clean and simple.

The words on 6 are ok but the graphic is not good. It's not VD... maybe V or the whole word or a symbol. I'm thinking some symbol.

I do not like the "gear eyes", though like that you tried! Also, there is no tag line for the name... do not want anything like that.. I was just explaining the words.
