Contest Brief
Playopolis is a new business in a large metropolitan area in the northeastern United States. It will provide safe and secure indoor play for children from infants to 8 years old.
The main play equipment will showcase soft play areas from different parts of the world: large cities such as London; famous manmade landmarks such as the Great Wall of China or Taj Mahal; famous natural landmarks such as Mount Fuji; or sport activities like surfing associated with countries such as Australia. Children will be able to play freely within these play areas that will stimulate many types of play activity: gross motor, fine motor, social interaction, exploration, and risk taking, just to name a few. The play center will have rooms for birthday parties and other celebrations for children.
The logo for Playopolis must include the name. The logo will be used in marketing, building signage (external and internal), on the website, and on the staff uniform. It should stand out on a number of background colors or should have its own background color as part of the design. No other words are needed though a tagline could be incorporated such as A World of Play Every Day. No stand-out characters should be introduced - character development and website design will be separate projects that may follow on to the winning freelancer or be awarded by competition. Characters might be appropriate if used to show the dynamic nature of the play or the fun that is on offer.
The logo must convey fun. It must do so to adults (parents) and children (from toddler to 8 year olds). The name is playful and stands out by itself - the design needs to reinforce the opportunity of free play that the indoor center will offer. At the same time the logo needs to be sophisticated to reflect the quality of the play experience.
The logo has to appeal to all children (no boy girl bias, no culture bias) though the language is English. A tagline might be appropriate and it could be the one above or one created as part of the logo design. The logo will be judged on its appearance rather than any used tagline.
It might be that a symbol will work in concert with the name. In such a case, it may be that the name could be given less prominence if the overall effect of the symbol is to convey the key points of this design brief.
