Hi,
This contest is for one beta launch homepage banner. The site is a large e-commerce site that offers products at very low prices with the main purpose of saving customers a lot of money on their purchases. In addition to brand new items the site also offers open box specials, overstock, refurbished, used, clearance items, etc. It also enables the customer to submit their best offer on certain clearance items.

I don’t want to limit the requirements of the banner in any way to allow for full creativity for the designers. The only requirement I have is any images and text used must be legal (not copyrighted), such as stock photos for purchase, public domain, or your personal images.

The winning banner will be simple, clean, and inviting. The color scheme should be earth tones (soft blues, greens, white, etc) that provide a fresh experience upon first impression. The two designs I tend to favor are:
1) banners with shopping related imagery with a creative twist (dont make them cookie cutter cliche shopping banners...think outside of the box)
2) very abstract and doesn't contain any shopping related imagery, but conveys the site mission in a savoy way and ties that into the imagery used.

Regarding typography and layout, that is up to you the designer. The link below shows different styles of interesting typography and layouts that may provide some inspiration:

When you submit your entry, please replace your banner over top of the homepage template i attached so I can get an idea of how it will look on the actual homepage.

Finally I really like out of the box thinkers. The winner will likely have future opportunities with me to design more banners for the site.
