Konkurrence Instruktioner

The Last Mission is a 2d base building game in a sci-fi setting we are working on. To get a visual impression for ourselves and a common basis for future cooperation with our partners, we need a few concept art drawings. The following game introduction describes the scenario:

"A cosmic event threatens our solar system. The world is doomed and the only hope remaining for the survival of mankind is to escape into the depths of space. To save the species, a consortium of the world's brightest scientists and engineers decides to design a generation ship that can supply a calculated number of people over a very long period of time. These people will control the ship and bring the remaining hibernated humans to a habitable planet. Despite panic and many conflicts on earth, the mission receives undreamt-of support from politics and economics, and thus has sufficient resources and the entire knowledge of mankind at its disposal. The leadership of the mission is entrusted to you. Congratulations! Build a self-sufficient and efficient ship and bring it to the next habitable planet. Good luck!"

For this contest we expect just one painting (incl. possible revision to finalise). The drawing should present the generation ship in space. As you can see in the attached in-game screenshots, the ship is designed in a modular system with hexagonal modules. This design allows a vast amount of construction possibilities and the opportunity to expand at anytime. But how does it look in space? Help us to visualise it. The drawing style is completely up to you, we are open for realistic or more cartoony approaches.

The individual modules houses the facilities needed to support the crew on their journey. A module houses up to 6 facilities/rooms such as a medical station, a physics lab, crew quarters or an engine room. The expansion of the ship/building of the modules happens through autonomous construction drones or maybe external mounted 3d printing robotics arms. We haven't decided on that yet. But in any case it's a fully automated process in the game.

Thanks for your interest. To be fair to everyone, we won't extend the contest. You are welcome to participate until the end. It can be just a sketch and description of your idea. If we like it the most, we can work on finalisation after the contest.

great idea! You said its 2D. but is it like in topview like in the screenshots or isometric view? i know you are looking for just concepts. But a little more information will be really helpful while working!

Thanks! Please don't hesitate to ask if you need further information. The game will be playable in a pure 2D top-down view as you can see in the screenshots. The screenshots are presenting the ship in a zoomed out view. The player can zoom into the several modules by selecting them. In this view - let's call it 'module detail view' (zoomed into one specific module) - the player can inspect the module, build corresponding rooms within the modules, etc.

But the painting should not show the game, it should present the scenario. So the drawing can be very well in 3D though. It's more of a key visual, a promo visual. I like to compare it with board game. They don't show the actual game on the front cover, they present the topic, the theme of the game in a nice drawing.

Do you want us to design the background/environment of the game or the module itself?

We don't need in-game graphic assets for now. What we look for is a concept art visualising the scenario/the mood.
