I need to design a poster, for a pavement A-Board, to advertise my boat trips in Cornwall, UK. Target audience are the general public, looking for something exciting to do whilst on holiday. The design needs to be in an art-deco style, bright and bold, to stand out from my competitors. The design will need to be portrait style and ready for print.

To give you an idea of what I require, there is an image that I found on the internet, 'To the Lighthouse', that is almost exactly what I want, obviously in your own style to avoid copyright issues.

The image shows a speedboat heading towards the lighthouse. I would like my boat to be featured, with the addition of a couple of Atlantic bottle-nose dolphins heading in the same direction as the boat, with extra text. The lighthouse is the octagonal Godrevy Lighthouse, which is depicted in the 'To The Lighthouse' file and I have added a couple of photo files.

Sadly, I do not yet have photos of my boat in action, but there are a couple of photos of similar boats at the same angle and a couple of videos to illustrate the boat at speed.

  : )... Think of it this way - it's clarifying your thoughts. By placing a specific value one what you've got so far you're refining what started - despite having an initial reference image - as actually something loose and general and now you're able to bring things down to specifics. Yes it is a tough - brutal, actually - process. But at the end of the day you end up clearer in your mind about what you do like and what you do actually want - and so too, becasue of that, is everyone else. Gives them the opportunity of giving it another shot if they can. Feedback is key. A lot of people are (frankly) crap at it - for your first time out the gate - you've done very well.

I'm new to freelancer. What happens next? Do I invite each entrant to continue developing their ideas until I get the perfect poster? Or do I run with the entrant I consider the most likely to have the right idea and tweak the final poster after the award has been granted? Derek

  Of course, I'm open to any ideas. My competitors use photos in their posters and I wanted to try something different. At the end of the day, the objective is for potential customers to ask for my boat or phone me, rather than my competitors.

  For clarification, the poster will be A1 Poster Size (super A1) 610 mm X 914 mm. The boat is a Redbay Stormforce 8.4m., with a wraparound canopy, as in photos. Video here, though my boat is marine blue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAuiIKydEII
