Second attempt
Here is a version with my own animation, a microscope shot of mitosis and a graphic describing every part of the process. I hope it suits your needs more then the previous one.

As I'm not a chemist nor a biologists I'm afraid visualising it in 3D and doing all the research for this contest is beyond me :D

But on the part
Lucky that chromosomes become thicker
Nuclear membrane disappear
This is prophase
And the next line
Copied chromosomes line up at center
This is metaphase
They split (this is anaphase)
And telophase line is clear
We need to show the phase with each line to make a visual link for the students
