This contest is for designing a knife protection sleeve that is easy to produce by injection molding. This sleeve has a flexible curvature to fit different knives and can be cut into different lengths. The basic idea of its construction is as shown in the drawing. The shape of the left and right finger rows alternate as if a person clasps his two hands together with slightly bent fingers. There is a "living hinge" between each finger that allows each individual finger to be flexed or slightly bent against each other in order to fit the different curvature of the cutting edge of a kitchen knife. Each living hinge can be cut apart at the living hinge to customize the length of sleeve to fit different knives. The cross-section of the sleeve should look similar to the drawing in order to allow easy insertion of the blade and allow the fingers to securely grip the blade. At the one end of the unit, there is an end section for protecting the tip of the blade.
The rough dimension of this sleeve is: 50X220 mm with each finger 10X50 mm.
The winner will be chosen for the soundness of the final design (which can be different and superior to the idea presented here), the design for the tip section of the sleeve, suitable for injection molding, and the attractive 3D rendering. The final files will be provided in both 3D STP file and 2D PDF for the rendering.
